The inaugural IgG4ward! EuroJAM opened with a powerful reminder of why community matters.
During her welcome remarks, Katharine Provencher, Director of Advocacy and Community Engagement for the IgG4ward! Foundation, asked attendees whether this was the first time they had ever met another person living with IgG4-related disease. Around the room, hands were raised.
For many people living with IgG4-RD, the journey to diagnosis can be long and often isolating. Reflecting on the significance of bringing patients, caregivers, advocates, healthcare professionals, and researchers together from around the world, Provencher shared a message that would resonate throughout the event:
"Nobody should walk this journey alone."
Dr. Emma Culver welcomed attendees to London and reflected on the international nature of the gathering, which brought together members of the IgG4-RD community from across Europe and around the world.
The opening session concluded with a keynote presentation from Dr. John Stone, founder of the IgG4ward Foundation and one of the world's leading experts on IgG4-related disease.
In History and Evolution of IgG4-Related Disease, Dr. Stone explores the remarkable journey that led to recognition of IgG4-RD as a distinct disease, tracing more than a century of medical observations, scientific discovery, and clinical progress.
